Bluetit cam-box update.
Very dark in cam box today but glad to say they must be dry an cosy in there. It's very hard to count them especailly on a dull day but i'm still sure there r NINE in there. I think they r feeding them a variety now. the bluey grey colours r starting to match with mum an dads now. On the infra red last night i couldn't see mrs bluetit at first but she was sat to one side. It must be difficult trying to sit with so many figits now. Hope sunshine will be back soon. Mum is in the box so u can see the colours of her an babes.
Well it has tipped down with rain here all day. Never the less it's been very busy in the garden. So here is the flying news. Family of Great tits with five young in tow, four on top of bird table trying to shelter from the rain and one underneath.
Also in the garden today family of Bluetits with 3 young.
Chaffinches with 3 young.
C; 20 young House Sparrows.
1 young dunnock.
1 young Blackbird.
Up on local pond the canada goose have 8 little ones left from a starter of ten. Eight pairs of Tufted Duck splashing about.
What a difference a week makes. From little jelly like blobs to turning bluey / grey. Getting stronger and bigger everyday. When i walked up the back path yesterday it was the first time i'd heard them squarkin.
The family of five starlings flew out of my eaves yesterday. The starlings have started rebuilding the nest to have their second batch. So their squarking will continue for a while yet. The first batch still comes back to roost at night, but they r lazy birds as they r always last up an first to bed.
Also about a dozen young fledgeling House Sparrows in the garden with two young dunnocks.
They don't half move about, real fidgits they r but then that is a good sign. Mr an Mrs Bluetits r going around the hedges getting caterpillars too. Have seen them going right across the orchard to get the best.
Have taken many short video e-mail video's but they r in a format that no one knows, der, ( mmvem ) ?????,. I can open them on my computer but when i send them they can not be opened the other end. So its still down to the sometimes dark not real clear amatuer pictures again, sorry.
Best get up to date now ( as i may not be able to get on my blog for a week again, ). Yes what a miracle nature is all NINE have now hatched. the first born being only three days old and allready has its gape and bulging eye sockets, tis looking rather full in the nest now but looking good too. I have also found out that they r finding mealworms at a neighbours birdtable, so ''thanku mr an mrs neighbour '' ( they know who they r ). I am going to buy some the weekend just as a standby ( well thats what i told my brother, he don't need to know the price, lol, )
They r playing games already at thier age,, lol,,,,,,,,,,i thought there was only one egg left to hatch but she just gone out and there r two still in amongst the jelly babies. She still continues to do a great job keeping them warm. We ave had a few windy nights but hope the rain stays away for a while now. P;s,,,,,,,,mr bluey is also still keepin up the good work.
Having only read about life of birds seeing is believing, never would have thought how they do things and manage things how they do. I know its still early days for these tiny bluetits. But being able to see a bit of nature can't really be bad, i mean in the form of technology / learning.
The food is coming in well now by both mr & mrs. Mr seems a bit shocked now when he goes in and there r more mouths to feed, he takes it back out and waits for mum to do the honours, bless him he'll soon learn, lol.
Yes still on the computer , not glued to it but trying to keep up with the goings on. There r definately 5 in that bundle now. They remind me of those rubber / jelly like things we used to put on top of our pencils to decorate them.
Wondering whats in the box today. I was originally going to sneak on the computer at 5am but had an asbo sleepless night so didn't get on computer till 9;30am. Still what a nice surprise to see or can't quite tell if there r now 5 or 6 hatched. Think computer will be on most of today ( even if i can't get on my blog, i can watch my cam-box, lol ).
I rang my neighbour for her to tell the kids that the first baby bird had hatched, she asked would i be likely to actually see one hatch?, i said doubtful unless i glued myself to the computer, as they r not on a timer, lol. Just after i'd put the phone down mrs bluetit was eating the shell from the second egg hatching, how cool was that. So o;k i was now glued to the screen.
Tuesday 15th may 2007, p;m. I wasn't expecting this until thursday / friday, but today the first baby has hatched, just a pink blob against those whitish looking eggs.. So tiny and helpless looking.
Oh mrs bluetit should be able to av a short break now sitting on this clutch. Mr Bluetit is feeding her but she still go's out for a snack or some more nesting material. Sometimes he comes in and she ain't there but she soon back, I think she gets bored she is a real figit-bum but she is turning them eggs like crazy.
Well i have to leave it there now and hope i can get back on my blog to update it tomorrow.
Thank heavens, i think she has finually stopped laying. So nine eggs at no9 ( i am so glad they didn't have ten, as i didn't want them to be an asbo family,,,,,,,,,lol,,,,,,,,,,long story,,,,,,lol, )
She still making very cosy bringing in more nesting material, i've seen her pull feathers out from one part of the nest and place it back in another part.
Oh yes, look who has come to visit, little Mr Bluetit, He has started feeding, he bought her a fine juicey caterpillar, she is spending more time in the nest now. She still pops out for a snack in the garden, but not usually longer than a minute or two. Mr bluetit is visiting regular, about time he started showing an interest again after flirting his everything. So tis looking nice an cosy in the nest now.
Aunties country corner in South Herefordshire. The beautiful Golden Valley to the west. River Wye flows right down the east. If i go south it runs into the Gwent area. So all in all a wonderful corner to be in..
